Mucopolysaccharides, also known as glycosaminoglycans, are long chains of sugar molecules found throughout the body, often in mucus and fluid around the joints. They help build bone, cartilage, tendons, corneas, skin, and connective tissue.
When the body cannot break down mucopolysaccharides, a condition called mucopolysaccharidoses (MPS) occurs. MPS refers to a group of inherited disorders of metabolism. People with MPS do not have any, or enough, of a substance (enzyme) needed to break down these sugar molecule chains. Over time, these glycosaminoglycans collect in the cells, blood, brain and spinal cord, and connective tissues. The result is permanent, progressive cellular damage that affects the individual’s appearance, physical abilities, organ and system functioning, and, in most cases, mental development.
Type II collagen (CII) is a peptide and a major component of joint cartilage1. It’s available in two forms as a supplement: undenatured and hydrolyzed.
Undenatured Collagen: Minimally processed at a low temperature to keep its peptides mostly intact. It’s proposed to improve joint pain through an effect on the immune system.
Hydrolyzed Collagen: Processed with a higher degree of heat, acid, and enzymes, resulting in the breakdown of peptides from larger forms into smaller ones. It might improve joint pain by supplying the amino acids used to repair the damaged tissue.
The primary benefit of undenatured CII appears to be improvement in joint pain, mainly in the context of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Hydrolyzed CII (also known as CII hydrolysate) may improve skin health/appearance and reduce joint pain.
However, higher doses of CII could increase the risk of oxalate-based kidney stones in susceptible individuals. It’s been used safely in doses up to 40 mg daily for up to 24 weeks.
Sodium hyaluronate is the sodium salt of hyaluronic acid, a glycosaminoglycan found in various connective tissues of humans. It is a long-chain polymer of disaccharide units of Na-glucuronate-N-acetylglucosamine.
Sodium hyaluronate functions as a tissue lubricant and is thought to play an important role in modulating the interactions between adjacent tissues1. Mechanical protection for tissues (iris, retina) and cell layers (corneal, endothelium, and epithelium) are provided by the high viscosity of the solution.
Sodium hyaluronate is used to treat knee pain in patients with osteoarthritis who have not received relief from other treatments. It is injected into the joint capsule, to act as both a shock absorber and a lubricant for the joint.
Chondroitin sulphate sodium is the sodium salt of chondroitin sulphate, a sulfated glycosaminoglycan (GAG) composed of a chain of alternating sugars (N-acetylgalactosamine and glucuronic acid)1. It is an important structural component of cartilage and provides much of its resistance to compression.
Chondroitin sulphate is a natural component of cartilage. It is extracted from shark or cow cartilage or manufactured synthetically.
Chondroitin sulphate is used to treat osteoarthritis. It is often used together with other ingredients, including manganese ascorbate, hyaluronic acid, collagen peptides, or glucosamine. An injectable solution containing chondroitin sulphate and sodium hyaluronate is approved by the FDA to protect the eye during cataract surgery
Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid and ascorbate, is a water-soluble nutrient found in some food. It is an essential nutrient involved in the repair of tissue, the formation of collagen, and the enzymatic production of certain neurotransmitters. It is required for the functioning of several enzymes and is important for immune system function. It also functions as an antioxidant.
Mechanism of Action :-Vitamin C helps protect cells from the damage caused by free radicals. Free radicals are compounds formed when our bodies convert the food we eat into energy.
Vitamin C is used to prevent and treat scurvy, a disease caused by vitamin C deficiency. It is also used as a dietary supplement.
Vitamin D3, also known as cholecalciferol, is a fat-soluble vitamin that your skin produces in response to sunlight exposure. It can also be consumed through a variety of animal and plant-sourced foods.
Vitamin D3 helps your body absorb calcium. Calcium is essential for maintaining strong and healthy bones. Vitamin D3 is also essential for maintaining a healthy immune system.
Vitamin D3 is used in the treatment of vitamin D deficiency and osteoporosis. It helps the body to absorb calcium, which is essential for maintaining strong and healthy bones.
